How does the AI background removal work?
This tool uses the @imgly/background-removal library, which runs an AI segmentation model directly in your browser using WebAssembly. The model detects the subject of the image and removes the surrounding background, outputting a transparent PNG.
Why does it take time on first use?
On first use, the AI model (~40 MB) needs to be downloaded from the CDN and cached in your browser. Subsequent uses load the model from cache and are much faster. The model runs entirely locally — it never runs on a server.
What image formats are supported?
The tool accepts JPG, PNG, and WebP images. The output is always a transparent PNG, which preserves the alpha channel for the removed background areas. Perfect for importing into design tools like Figma, Canva, or Photoshop.
Is my image uploaded to any server?
No. Your image is processed entirely in your browser using WebAssembly and the AI model. Nothing is uploaded to our servers. Your images remain completely private on your device at all times.
